Is fibre rich food a good choice for your magnesium intake?

Foods rich with magnesium are among the best choices for people who need it, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Magnesium is vital for brain health, digestion and energy.

“Magnesium is needed for brain function, memory, muscle function and the body’s ability to repair damaged tissue,” Mayo Clinic chief medical officer, Dr. Jennifer Schoen said.

Magneto-organic fibre is the most bioavailable form of magnesium, meaning it can be absorbed by the body through the skin.

“It is the best form of calcium available for your body to absorb,” Schoen explained.

MagnaPure Magna, which produces the products at its Cork plant, says its fibre is a blend of organic plant and animal fibre, which gives the fibre a “smooth, rich and luxurious texture”.

It says the blend is enriched with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, including alpha-lipoic acid, which is thought to help lower blood pressure.

The Mayo Clinic also recommends Magna Pure products for people with a low magnesium intake and for those suffering from magnesium deficiency.

MagnaPure said its fibre and mineral-rich MagnaFiber supplement contains a blend made from organic animal, vegetable and vegetable protein and a blend composed of a mix of organic and natural plant ingredients, including argan, coconut, rice, rice bran, oats, soybean and millet.

The products are also fortified with magnesium-rich magnesium chloride.

“This product contains magnesium chloride, which binds with minerals in the food to create a protective, calcium-rich barrier, allowing the magnesium to reach the cells and maintain the proper health and vitality of the cells,” the company said.

“Magnesium levels in your body will increase with a calcium deficiency, which means it is important to get the right balance of magnesium levels and calcium in your diet.”

MagnaFresh, which has an exclusive contract with the Mayo Centre, said the fibre is rich in vitamin A, B1 and B2, magnesium, and selenium, which are all beneficial for the body.

Magnesium and magnesium-containing supplements are available at a wide range of stores in Ireland, including a range of supermarkets and specialty stores.
